This report details a funding programme which is available through the Landfill Communities Fund, an initiative which allows landfill operators to release tax credits to environmental and community groups. The scheme broadly aims to benefit local communities in the vicinity of a landfill site. Interested parties are advised to refer to the introductory GRANTfinder report UG3450 LCF: Landfill Communities Fund, where in-depth information concerning Landfill Tax Regulations can be found.
SITA Environmental Trust was established in 1997, and allocates funding to community and environmental improvement projects across England, in the Aberdeenshire and Perth areas of Scotland and the Pembrokeshire area of Wales, each year. The Trust distributes the majority of SITA's Landfill Tax Credits and is an independent and not-for-profit organisation.
Funding is provided under the following programmes:
- Enhancing Communities - funding for community improvement projects (categories D & E of the Landfill Tax Regulations) (this report).
- Enriching Nature - funding for wildlife projects (category DA of the Landfill Tax Regulations) within the vicinity of any licensed and registered landfill site in England (reported separately on GRANTfinder under reference number UGBG50).
- Young Person's Volunteering Fund - funding to assist young people aged 14-25 to volunteer their time to create or enhance facilities that can be enjoyed by the wider community (reported separately on GRANTfinder under reference number UGCU50).
- Tayside Biodiversity Action Fund - funding for biodiversity projects within the vicinity of the Binn Farm landfill site in Perth, Scotland (reported separately on GRANTfinder under reference number UGK320).
